I’m always tired. Like always.

But sleep doesn’t always come easily. Most nights when I’m trying to fall asleep, all my thoughts come out and run around my head making lots of noise, making sleep nearly impossible. And when I finally do fall asleep, I have dreams that wake me up full of anxiety.

I know myself, and I know I need about 9 hours of sleep each night to properly function the following day. Even one night of less sleep can throw off my week. It’s hard though. I want to be able to go out with my friends at night when they do fun things. But I know that the following day(s) will be full of exhaustion, grumpiness, and anxiety.

But then again, maybe it’s all in my head. Maybe I just think I need so many hours of sleep each night. And then I drive myself (and others) crazy if I’m worried that I’ll be out too late.

When I do stay out late with friends, I typically have fun (if I can get myself to calm my sleep anxieties). If I mentally prepare myself to stay up late, it’s a lot less anxiety-inducing because I’m prepared. But then again, if I plan to stay up late, there’s a chance that the anticipation will make the whole situation worse. So I guess it’s just a day-by-day situation.

Sleep and I have a love-hate relationship. I love sleeping – but I hate the process of falling asleep and the anxiety-inducing dreams. Sometimes I end up staying up way too late because I try to push off the inevitable falling-asleep-thoughts – but all it does is delay them and make me exhausted the following day.

But sleep is able to fix so many things. So it’s worth the struggle.

    1. I’m sorry you also have sleepless nights! The only upside is that sometimes those nights can be very productive. (Unfortunately, the next day is not…) The worst is when the thoughts run through my mind nonstop. Usually if that’s the case, I read a few pages in my book or play a quick game on my phone to distract myself; that often helps.
Good luck sleeping! And great post btw!

      1. I usually find a book helps me to eventually nod off. I’ve heard that computers and television are not a good way to get sleep but I have to admit that I often find myself flicking the switch on for the TV if I can’t doze off!

        1. I’ve also heard that computers and television are not good to use before going to sleep. But sometimes, I feel desperate and use them anyways. I try to turn on a small light in addition to using any electronics so that there will be less of the flashing lights.
